Week 34

I'd rather have Jesus than anything, this world affords today . . .

  1. Sometimes Paul seems to think so little of women and their ability to be reasonable adults -- he seems very pro-man. Different time, different culture. But I do think he also slams against entitlement and rights -- and focuses on surrender, whether you are a man, a woman or a slave. The urge is to keep your sights on the eternal and rise above the pettiness of this earth.

This line: "They probably have a gross infatuation with controversy and will endlessly debate meanings of words. That kind of talk leads to envy, discord, slander, and evil mistrust; and these people constantly bicker" sounds like every political campaign I've heard -- and politics can happen anywhere there are people.

"Godliness, along with contentment, does put us ahead but not in the ways some imagine." There is a LOT of power in contentment

"In His own perfect time, He will come" God's perfect timing -- my part is to trust in His timing, for everything.

  2. I have some catching up to do! I did read in Chron today, well, the story parts anyway. Skimmed the rest. Then I headed to John. Made it thru 5.

Seems like if Jesus were here today, He would catch a ton of flak because He wouldn't meet our expectations. He would operate outside the churches mandates and all of human traditions and barriers. That is appealing...of course unless He crosses mine and He would! Because He does!

To me, that's the difference of living by the Spirit and just going through the motions. It's controversial to those of us who are dead. We, I, need to hear the voice of God daily, every moment, so I can be alive.

  3. LIft UP the Eternal our God in your heart; bow DOWN to the earth where He rests His feet. A reminder of surrender:)

a God who forgives, yet YOu did not ignore what they did wrong. So many people forgot God is also a God of justice -- it's very clear in Rev 20:) Love and justice meet - - in our everything God.

Enter His presence singing songs of JOY! Love that word pic; as opposed to shhhhhhhh; quiet, be solemn, be somber -- your in the presence of royalty; not our God! He LOVES to celebrate! We don't even comprehend the word celebrate I bet!

Go through HIs gates, giving thanks; walk through His courts, giving praise (this took me to Revelation too!) The promise that "blessed are those that wash their robes that they may go through the gates into the city (WHOOOO-HOOOOO! GIVING THANKS with a capital T)

Every morning I will purge all the wicked from the land -- in a way; my heart is the land - and every morning, I need to surrender. Takes me to DJ today I just had to re-read again "Holy Spirit, think through me, live through me, love through me" Romans 8:6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace" Purge away Holy Spirit

  4. I had some similar thoughts, it was good reading yesterday. Ran out of time to comment so thanks for putting here for me to re-read this morning. Reminds me of the words in a Chris Tomlin song "I come alive on God's great dance floor". What a party God throws for us when we come to Him and heaven will be about celebration for sure! Something we've never truly experienced here on earth.

Proverbs had a lot of stuff today, like normal.
19:11 "A person with discretion is not easily angered; he gains respect by overlooking an offense." It's easy to pick at every little thing someone does when they get on your nerves. A lot easier to over look their faults if they're you're friend. But if I have discretion, I will use better judgment.

v23 "Reverence for the Eternal leads to a fulfilled life; those who have it will sleep well, for disaster will not touch them." When I am at peace with God, I do sleep better, that makes perfect sense. The greatest disaster would be to think I was right with God when the reality is far different. That would come under a previous verse of being wise and teachable so I would know whether I was or not. When I have God, I do have everything I need. What can man do to me?

  5. whoever moves too quickly misses the turn; take your time, pump the brakes, slow down

Whoever cares for the poor makes a loan to the Eternal -- who wouldn't want to make a loan to the eternal!!

There is actually a way to become wiser later in life!! "Heed counsel, act on instruction"

  6. I read John 6 today to catch up a bit more. I do like that book, in any version!

Jesus walked on the water to the disciples in the middle of a storm and once they allowed Him into the boat they reached their destination. One word popped into my mind: perspective.

His Presence makes me aware of things I wouldn't normally see. I can stress about things and try to make it happen on my own, but as soon as I surrender and allow Him to be involved - bam! I get it! I see things way differently and sometimes the answer's right in front of me.

Kinda like swimming against the current, struggling to go a few inches and then realizing that you could have stood up and walked way easier. All about perspective!

  7. Seems like Hosea should get an extra big hug from Jesus for his faithfulness in marrying prostitutes - tough road for a prophet.

Chapter 6 has got to refer to Jesus (as the commentator noted)

"He'll bring us back to life after two days; He'll raise us up on the third day, and we'll live with Him. So let's know Him; let's strive to know the Eternal!. As surely as the sun rises, He'll come out from His lair. As surely as the rains come each year -- those spring rains that drench the earth -- He'll come back to us"

Living in the NW -- that's definitely a SURE promise. Amen, come Lord Jesus!

  8. John 8:12 "...if you walk with Me, you will thrive in the nourishing light that gives life and will not know darkness." It is so true. When I keep focused on Jesus, I am constantly growing because I'm being fed good Food. When I take my eyes off of Him, I become jealous, miserable, discontented. No wonder I stop growing.

I so need to stand and stay in the nourishing Light of the world, Light of MY world. I like being happy and content. I'm sure other's prefer me that way too! :)

  9. So yesterday, I didn't post; but wanted to comment on John today -- when we are done with this year, my goal is to go back and slowly walk through John, it is so full of who Jesus is . . .

It was time for Jesus . . . my time has not yet come -- Jesus was so attune to God's voice, His Father's voice, the Holy Spirit promptings - - it was really true, they were one. Nothing could divert Him from the God-time-line. I'm SO quick to jump out of line, to get distracted, to be pulled into another line:(

Do you suppose his brothers hated him at this point? They were sarcastic, but also urging him to a death sentence.

The religious leaders really caused a lot of fear - - Satan's tactic. I think that's why the people admired Jesus; He was not afraid.

"I chase only after the glory for the One who sent Me" this reminds me of J the B's humility.

7:19 "Moses gave you the law, didn't he? Then how can you blatantly ignore the law" I think this is the line that really got their goat, because this was thrown back at him with the John 8 episode; Moses said . . . what do You say? I can just hear them, "He thinks He knows the law better than we do; well let Him wiggle out of this law" the tension in these 2 chapters is immense. They got right to work on their plot - it took place that very night as they charged her the very next morning -- very ugly - -

"If any of you is thirsty, come to Me and drink" this thought is a reminder of the woman at the well and is echoed in Rev 21,22 . . . God's continued call to the thirsty - that would be me.

Nicodemus, calling for a fair hearing - - just listen to Him and learn something about Him! That's what the Officers who went to arrest Him did; it changed them. That's what Nic did; it changed him. Just listen to what He has to say with an honest heart.

I love this version's take on Jesus words "I do not condemn you either; all I ask is that you go and from now on avoid the sins that plague you" Just - - don't go there, you will be tempted, you might fall -- but do your best to stay away from; avoid whatever tempts you.

I am the light . . . you will thrive in the nourishing light (I wonder if the woman caught was with Him when He said those words? Because the 2 fit hand in had; avoid the dark, walk in the light -- you will thrive:)

and . . . there's so much more -- but off to read a bit of Timothy:)
